Jonathan Jakes

Counsellor

Jonathan has been serving people in various capacities for most of his life. For many years, he worked as an Assistant Director and then a Director of Youth Ministry within various churches. This experience gave him the opportunity of learning to relate with teenagers, their parents, and their whole family. During this season, he aided several local schools and shelters, in both urban and suburban communities, with crisis and crisis prevention. He also travelled abroad and aided an orphanage, a school, and a seminary. During his undergraduate program and graduate program, he provided counselling in hospitals with both inpatients and outpatients.

These cross-cultural experiences gave him the opportunity of learning to relate with people from diverse backgrounds and in diverse situations.

He has pursued formal education in social work, ordained ministry, and professional counselling.

Jonathan is passionate about learning the whole person through developing the counselling relationship. He uses empathy and exploration to pursue this connection. He believes healing and flourishing is possible. He works with individuals, couples, and families, dealing with intrapersonal issues, interpersonal issues, cultural issues, family issues, vocational issues, sexual issues, and spiritual issues. His therapeutic approach to counselling is integrative, person-centred, and relationship-oriented; and, it is influenced by his personal testimony.

Jonathan enjoys his wife, their two young children, their extended-family, their church-family, and friends; and, he enjoys music, sports, travelling, movies, and reading.
